I lost the hamster, and he's not mine! Anyone know how to find a hamster or lure him back? Help!

I took him out to let the girls pet him, then he jumped out of my hands, ran behind the couch, and as I was pulling everything out from under (it's actually a futon), he disappeared. I live in a small two-bedroom apartment, but all of a sudden it's huge and I can't find him anywhere! Also, I have a cat, and if she finds him, she'll probably eat him. We're hamster-sitting, and I never thought I'd lose him. Any tips for getting him to come out of hiding would be GREATLY appreciated!
