 Y'all, I am tired.

But it was a good day. I mostly worked with Noemi in the back training for my new position. I was on the floor for a bit so Faith and Leo could take breaks, which means I also dressed the mannequins, one of my favorite things to do. I'm going to redress a few more tomorrow, then probably start a project I'm supposed to be working on either Wednesday or Thursday.

I really like Faith and know she's going to do well as the other ASM in the store. She isn't afraid to speak her mind. She and Brittney will both be a force to be reckoned with and I think Scott won't know what hit him. But they'll support each other, and that's what most important.

My entire life, I've been told not to edit as I write and for the most part, I've listened. If it edit as I write, I get stuck in the rewrites and don't progress in the story. But with this rewrite, I'm allowing myself to either write or edit as I feel led and it seems to be going really well. It's going slower, but that's okay. I'm focusing on making this draft better and I think it's working.

It's 10:30 and I'm exhausted. I'm only staying up late because the new key holder is closing by herself and if she calls me, I want to be able to answer and help her, but I think I'm going to go to bed and hope I hear my phone ring.

I'm so glad I'm writing here again.

Oh I bet dressing mannequins is fun! It's a boot store, but does it sell other clothing? Or do you dress then to mainly highlight the boots?

I'm glad you have some good support in the store!

Writing process is interesting to me. There are some similarities to art, although obviously it's really different. I know artists who finish an entire section of a work before moving on to another one. I could never, ever paint that way. But it works for some people! Usually, they have done a ton of prep though. Drawings, value studies, color studies. Finishing as you go seems sort of analogous to editing as you go, but on this novel, you've already got sort of a frame work, right?

So yes, boots are the majority of our sales (60%-ish, I think), but we sell apparel, jewelry, hats, hat stuff (like cleaners and bands and feathers and whatnot), of course boot care, work boots, kids stuff (clothing, boots) and anything you could need to make yourself look western.

We're also in every state except Alaska and Hawaii and the store is based in California.

So the mannequins are there to help customers think of ways to put our clothes together. I try to think outside of what I would be comfortable wearing and really have fun dressing them.

Yes, I wrote a first draft, so I have that to look at and compare this rewrite to. It's going much slower, but I'm trying to really take my time and make this draft as good as possible so the next draft is just that, a draft, and not a rewrite.

Thanks for explaining so thoroughly! It makes sense it's also apparel and hats. I have to look up and see where there's a store in Michigan. I've never seen one, but I'm in a limited area.

When I've done writing in the past (cough, fanfic) I enjoyed editing the most. But it's also fun when words are flowing!

I love the editing process! Everything is already out and now you just have to polish and make it pretty. But yes, when the words are flowing, that's the actual best.

Proud of you for letting yourself edit as you go! I have always edited as I go, and I can't imagine doing otherwise!

I've never edited as I go! It's a new thing for me and I definitely get stuck in the editing sometimes, but I'm really loving this new freedom.
